College Football 2013 - Week 8 Jabesblog Picks

Season Record: 132-106-2 (ATS) 186-54 (Straight-Up)
Last Week:  30-20 (ATS) 40-10 (Straight-Up)

60% for Week 7 with a couple heart-breaking misses.  Here is what I have for Week 8.

WEEK 8 PICKS
Western Kentucky (-4) 38, Louisiana-Lafayette 24  (L)
A Tuesday Night Special, simply siding with the home team here.
Miami, FL (-9.5) 34, North Carolina 17  (L)
I'll buck the Thursday Night trend and go with all the spread trends whcih favor the Hurricanes.
Louisville 23, UCF (+13) 17  (W)
At some point Louisville is going to be tested and I have pointed at this game all along.
Duke (+2) 30, Virginia 24  (W)
Duke is 5-0 ATS the past 3 seasons when the line is less than 3 either way
Army (+2.5) 38, Temple 35  (L)
Army is bad in road games, Temple is bad in all games...something has to give
Ohio 29, Eastern Michigan (+17) 17  (L)
Not a strong play, but I don't get what happened to Ohio last week
Ball State (-18.5) 45, Western Michigan 14  (W)
The Broncos are just terrible, look for Wenning/Edwards/Snead to light it up
Northern Illinois (-15.5) 44, Central Michigan 21  (W)
I think the Huskies offense bounces back this week
Michigan State (-26.5) 38, Purdue 6  (L)
I am not 100% that the Spartan offense is fixed, but the defense might outscore Purdue on Saturday
East Carolina (-22.5) 45, Southern Miss 10  (W)
The Pirates need to rebound and a home game against the Golden Eagles is a perfect remedy
Florida State (-3) 48, Clemson 41  (W)
I have been behind the Seminoles since the start and they have done nothing to change my opinion
Maryland 28, Wake Forest (+6.5) 27  (W)
The tide has turned a little on the Terps and Wake has been much better at home
Texas Tech (-6) 34, West Virginia 21  (W)
The Red Raiders are 6-0 SU and ATS in the last 3 years as road favorites.
Northwestern 31, Minnesota (+12.5) 21  (W)
The Wildcats get a Big 10 win, but they are too banged up to expect a thrashing
Toledo (-8.5) 35, Navy 21  (L)
Navy has struggled in two straight road games to put points up
Cincinnati (-13.5) 41, Connecticut 14  (W)
The Huskies have given me nothing to instill confidence in them
SMU (+3.5) 28, Memphis 24  (W)
I expect SMU to throw all day, so the Tigers need to control the ball to win this one
Wyoming (-7) 45, Colorado State 31  (L)
A good old fashion western shootout in Laramie
Texas A&M 44, Auburn (+12.5) 35  (W)
The Aggies defense makes these double digit lines against good teams a tall order
Oregon 51, Washington State (+39) 21  (W)
With big games coming up, the Ducks won't be afraid to call off the dogs to avoid an injury
Michigan 34, Indiana (+7.5) 33  (L)
Passing teams have given Michigan problems and Indiana will be better prepared for road game #2
Georgia Tech 27, Syracuse (+7) 24  (L)
I see this one as a field goal game either way, unless the turnover bug keeps biting the Orange
Oregon State (-10) 48, California 31  (W)
I keep thinking Cal should be better, but this is clearly a re-building year
Ohio State 35, Iowa (+17) 23  (W)
It would be human to exhale when the whole country has you looking forward to Michigan
Alabama (-27.5) 48, Arkansas 14  (W)
It is all coming together for the Crimson Tide
South Carolina (-7) 41, Tennessee 24  (L)
The SEC East is now back in range for the Gamecocks
Arizona State (-3) 34, Washington 27  (W)
Sneaky good game of the week, I like the Sun Devils at home
North Texas (-6.5) 27, Lousiana Tech 16  (W)
LA Tech has not shown it can score points against a good defense
South Alabama 30, Kent State (+6.5) 27  (L)
Kent State is really banged up, but it still feels like a FG type of game
Missouri (+3.5) 17, Florida 16  (W)
Might as well call for the upset, even without James Franklin
LSU 34, Ole Miss (+8.5) 30  (W)
We will call this the Rebels last stand, but the Tigers still get the "W"
Houston (+10) 31, BYU 30  (W)
For some reason this feels like a letdown game for the Cougars
Buffalo (-20.5) 38, Massachusetts 7  (W)
The Bulls may need to be considered for the MAC East Title
Texas State 31, Georgia State (+16.5) 21  (W)
No comment comes to mind
Akron (-7) 20, Miami, OH 10  (W)
That is two bad games in a row
Baylor 56, Iowa State (+34) 31  (L)
The Cyclones are more competitive than one might think
Oklahoma 30, Kansas (+23.5) 17  (W)
The Sooners were a mess last week, tough to think they can fix it all
Oklahoma State 27, TCU (+7.5) 24  (L)
3 straight Big 12 underdogs, but I really like that extra .5 point in this one
UCLA (+6) 31, Stanford 27  (L)
Stanford is the chique bounceback pick and I have never been chique
USC (+3) 29, Notre Dame 28  (L)
My Lane Who? Pick of the Week
Rice (-18) 38, New Mexico State 14  (W)
The Aggies are terrible
Boise State 40, Nevada (+22.5) 24  (W)
The Wolfpack don't turn it over enough to reach this spread
Georgia (-7) 37, Vanderbilt 21  (L)
It is simple a belief, and Vandy doesn't believe enough they can beat Georgia
Utah (+4) 33, Arizona 31  (L)
The Utes feed off being the underdog in evenly matched games
Fresno State 45, UNLV (+24.5) 31  (W)
The Rebels offense has been better than expected

No Line on Utah State and New Mexico.  I am also refraining from the Wisconsin-Illinois game this week.

Record this week:  28-17
Record this year:  160-123-2
