Season Record: 132-106-2 (ATS) 186-54 (Straight-Up)
Last Week: 30-20 (ATS) 40-10 (Straight-Up)
60% for Week 7 with a couple heart-breaking misses. Here is what I have for Week 8.
WEEK 8 PICKS
Western Kentucky (-4) 38, Louisiana-Lafayette 24 (L)
A Tuesday Night Special, simply siding with the home team here.
Miami, FL (-9.5) 34, North Carolina 17 (L)
I'll buck the Thursday Night trend and go with all the spread trends whcih favor the Hurricanes.
Louisville 23, UCF (+13) 17 (W)
At some point Louisville is going to be tested and I have pointed at this game all along.
Duke (+2) 30, Virginia 24 (W)
Duke is 5-0 ATS the past 3 seasons when the line is less than 3 either way
Army (+2.5) 38, Temple 35 (L)
Army is bad in road games, Temple is bad in all games...something has to give
Ohio 29, Eastern Michigan (+17) 17 (L)
Not a strong play, but I don't get what happened to Ohio last week
Ball State (-18.5) 45, Western Michigan 14 (W)
The Broncos are just terrible, look for Wenning/Edwards/Snead to light it up
Northern Illinois (-15.5) 44, Central Michigan 21 (W)
I think the Huskies offense bounces back this week
Michigan State (-26.5) 38, Purdue 6 (L)
I am not 100% that the Spartan offense is fixed, but the defense might outscore Purdue on Saturday
East Carolina (-22.5) 45, Southern Miss 10 (W)
The Pirates need to rebound and a home game against the Golden Eagles is a perfect remedy
Florida State (-3) 48, Clemson 41 (W)
I have been behind the Seminoles since the start and they have done nothing to change my opinion
Maryland 28, Wake Forest (+6.5) 27 (W)
The tide has turned a little on the Terps and Wake has been much better at home
Texas Tech (-6) 34, West Virginia 21 (W)
The Red Raiders are 6-0 SU and ATS in the last 3 years as road favorites.
Northwestern 31, Minnesota (+12.5) 21 (W)
The Wildcats get a Big 10 win, but they are too banged up to expect a thrashing
Toledo (-8.5) 35, Navy 21 (L)
Navy has struggled in two straight road games to put points up
Cincinnati (-13.5) 41, Connecticut 14 (W)
The Huskies have given me nothing to instill confidence in them
SMU (+3.5) 28, Memphis 24 (W)
I expect SMU to throw all day, so the Tigers need to control the ball to win this one
Wyoming (-7) 45, Colorado State 31 (L)
A good old fashion western shootout in Laramie
Texas A&M 44, Auburn (+12.5) 35 (W)
The Aggies defense makes these double digit lines against good teams a tall order
Oregon 51, Washington State (+39) 21 (W)
With big games coming up, the Ducks won't be afraid to call off the dogs to avoid an injury
Michigan 34, Indiana (+7.5) 33 (L)
Passing teams have given Michigan problems and Indiana will be better prepared for road game #2
Georgia Tech 27, Syracuse (+7) 24 (L)
I see this one as a field goal game either way, unless the turnover bug keeps biting the Orange
Oregon State (-10) 48, California 31 (W)
I keep thinking Cal should be better, but this is clearly a re-building year
Ohio State 35, Iowa (+17) 23 (W)
It would be human to exhale when the whole country has you looking forward to Michigan
Alabama (-27.5) 48, Arkansas 14 (W)
It is all coming together for the Crimson Tide
South Carolina (-7) 41, Tennessee 24 (L)
The SEC East is now back in range for the Gamecocks
Arizona State (-3) 34, Washington 27 (W)
Sneaky good game of the week, I like the Sun Devils at home
North Texas (-6.5) 27, Lousiana Tech 16 (W)
LA Tech has not shown it can score points against a good defense
South Alabama 30, Kent State (+6.5) 27 (L)
Kent State is really banged up, but it still feels like a FG type of game
Missouri (+3.5) 17, Florida 16 (W)
Might as well call for the upset, even without James Franklin
LSU 34, Ole Miss (+8.5) 30 (W)
We will call this the Rebels last stand, but the Tigers still get the "W"
Houston (+10) 31, BYU 30 (W)
For some reason this feels like a letdown game for the Cougars
Buffalo (-20.5) 38, Massachusetts 7 (W)
The Bulls may need to be considered for the MAC East Title
Texas State 31, Georgia State (+16.5) 21 (W)
No comment comes to mind
Akron (-7) 20, Miami, OH 10 (W)
That is two bad games in a row
Baylor 56, Iowa State (+34) 31 (L)
The Cyclones are more competitive than one might think
Oklahoma 30, Kansas (+23.5) 17 (W)
The Sooners were a mess last week, tough to think they can fix it all
Oklahoma State 27, TCU (+7.5) 24 (L)
3 straight Big 12 underdogs, but I really like that extra .5 point in this one
UCLA (+6) 31, Stanford 27 (L)
Stanford is the chique bounceback pick and I have never been chique
USC (+3) 29, Notre Dame 28 (L)
My Lane Who? Pick of the Week
Rice (-18) 38, New Mexico State 14 (W)
The Aggies are terrible
Boise State 40, Nevada (+22.5) 24 (W)
The Wolfpack don't turn it over enough to reach this spread
Georgia (-7) 37, Vanderbilt 21 (L)
It is simple a belief, and Vandy doesn't believe enough they can beat Georgia
Utah (+4) 33, Arizona 31 (L)
The Utes feed off being the underdog in evenly matched games
Fresno State 45, UNLV (+24.5) 31 (W)
The Rebels offense has been better than expected
No Line on Utah State and New Mexico. I am also refraining from the Wisconsin-Illinois game this week.
Record this week: 28-17
Record this year: 160-123-2

Season Record: 102-86-2 (ATS) 147-44 (Straight-Up)
Last Week: 28-27 (ATS) 41-14 (Straight-Up)
You would think after my recent results I would give up. No way!! It is for entertainment purposes only...
WEEK 7 PICKS
Louisville 31, Rutgers (+19) 21 (W)
I am sticking with the underdog trend in the ESPN Thursday Night game. Plus Teddy Bridgewater will likely be missing his top target.
San Diego State (-3.5) 38, Air Force 24 (W)
I think the Aztecs are finally getting it rolling and the Falcons defense is not in a position to stop that.
Arizona (+6) 24, USC 20 (L)
Let's try an upset special here...not sure what kind of Trojan team we will see
Cincinnati (-20.5) 37, Temple 10 (L)
The Bearcats have disappointed a little this season, but they are money at home
Oklahoma (-13.5) 48, Texas 24 (L)
Farewell tour for Mack Brown?
Michigan State (-9.5) 28, Indiana 14 (W)
The Hoosiers first road game does not go well
Virginia Tech 23, Pittsburgh (+9) 20 (L)
I was tempted to pick the upset, but I definitely think the Panthers play them tough off a bye week
Massachusetts (-3.5) 4, Miami OH 0 (W)
At least someone is going to win
Clemson 44, Boston College (+24) 27 (W)
With FSU next week, I feel like Boston College is improved enough not to look past
Buffalo (-12) 35, Western Michigan 13 (W)
The Bulls are trying hard to have me consider them in the MAC top-tier
Ohio (-17) 37, Central Michigan 10 (L)
I continue to try and avoid picking a directional Michigan school
Army (-7.5) 28, Eastern Michigan 17 (W)
Army is only 1-8 ATS in the last 9 vs the MAC, but they are against a directional school which trumps the trend
Maryland 19, Virginia (+7) 17 (W)
Without C.J. Brown, Maryland will need to call on their defense and running game
Connecticut 16, South Florida (+4.5) 13 (W)
Two more bad teams, I don't want to give points in this one
Duke (-3) 42, Navy 35 (W)
The Blue Devils are a very similar team to Indiana who the Midshipmen beat a few weeks back
Troy (-17.5) 45, Georgia State 20 (L)
Texas A&M (-5.5) 56, Ole Miss 31 (L)
I just don't see Ole Miss being able to keep up
Ball State (-13.5) 41, Kent State 22 (L)
The Cardinals have a lot of line trends working in their favor
Mississippi State 27, Bowling Green (+10.5) 24 (W)
The two-quarterback system may not work to Mississippi State's favor
Northern Illinois (-22.5) 48, Akron 17 (L)
A better line than last week in the Akron game, but I still like the MAC power
Texas Tech 33, Iowa State (+14) 27 (W)
The Cyclones are playing better and Tech has revolving QB's hitting the field
Rice (+2.5) 31, UTSA 24 (W)
I think Rice is the better team
Wyoming 43, New Mexico (+15.5) 35 (W)
Wyoming's defense is not good enough to support a bigger line
Stanford (-8) 34, Utah 20 (L)
Might be a trap game, but Stanford is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games
BYU 26, Georgia Tech (+7) 24 (L)
The Yellow Jackets need to save their season
Nebraska (-14) 41, Purdue 16 (W)
The Boilermakers are getting too much credit here
Missouri (+8) 42, Georgia 41 (W)
Injuries and Missouri's lack of brand name will catch up to the Bulldogs in an upset special
Baylor (-17) 63, Kansas State 31 (L)
They might not get to 70, but I'll still give you 17 until proven otherwise
LSU (-7) 29, Florida 13 (W)
I just feel it is time someone else expose Florida's lack of firepower
Arizona State (-25) 52, Colorado 17 (W)
It seems that Colorado's PAC-12 games will all resemble this score
Oregon (-13.5) 46, Washington 21 (W)
The Ducks are 10-0 ATS in their last 10 road games
UCLA 44, California (+24.5) 30 (L)
I think they finally made a line big enough for Cal to cover
Wisconsin 35, Northwestern (+10.5) 34 (L)
This line seems high...I expect a one score game either way
East Carolina 31, Tulane (+10) 26 (W)
The Pirates have not been a good cover in this line range
South Carolina 27, Arkansas (+6.5) 24 (L)
There is just something strange going on with the Gamecocks
Alabama (-27.5) 38, Kentucky 0 (W)
I think it is time that Alabama roll somebody
San Jose State (+3.5) 30, Colorado State 27 (W)
This one has the look of a field goal game, so I'll take the points
Arkansas State (-24.5) 40, Idaho 10 (L)
Michigan (-2.5) 34, Penn State 23 (L)
The Nittany Lions are starting to show some vulnerability
NC State 23, Syracuse (+7) 21 (W)
Houston (-9.5) 38, Memphis 20 (W)
UAB (-7.5) 33, FIU 17 (L)
Marshall 31, Florida Atlantic (+11) 24 (W)
The Thundering Herd are not a great road favorite
TCU 30, Kansas (+24.5) 10 (W)
Middle Tennessee (+6.5) 26, North Texas 23 (L)
Texas State 27, ULM (+6.5) 24 (W)
Boise State (-6.5) 23, Utah State 10 (W)
This line is underestimating just how important Chuckie Keaton is
Oregon State (+2) 37, Washington State 27 (W)
Tulsa (-10.5) 48, UTEP 33 (W)
UNLV (-9) 35, Hawaii 14 (L)

- Ohio State keeps answering the questions and passing the tests with flying colors. It isn't always a masterpiece, but it still sells on the market. Next task, how to get through the fluffy part of their schedule and not look all the way to Michigan. Keep an eye on the Indiana game ahead, as the Hoosiers are the one team who can expose a questionable secondary.
- All is not lost for Northwestern, but they are rewarded with a trip to Madison. Both teams are bouncing back from a loss to Ohio State, so whichever team is more resilient will come to play on Saturday.
- Iowa as a contender was pre-mature. Penn State is not elite. Sparty doesn't want to be forgotten.
- Ohio State is bowl-eligible. Michigan can become bowl-eligible this week.

- Washington proved their worthiness, but will it just be a bunch of well-played losses in big games this year? Oregon is next at home, maybe the Huskies can figure out a way to score with the Ducks or control the game with Bishop Sankey.
- UCLA is in firm control of the PAC-12 South. Arizona State is not ready yet for that crown.
- Arizona can knock USC down to 0-3 at the Coliseum Thursday Night. The Wildcats ambushed the Trojans last season, so confidence should not be an issue in the first USC game post Lane Kiffin. Be interesting what kind of Trojan team we see.
- Washington State is 2 games from bowl-eligibility, but it looks like this weekend against Oregon State is almost a must-win. It could also turn the Beavers season in the wrong direction.
- Oregon and Stanford can become bowl-eligible this week.

- Georgia survived, but continues to get banged up. Missouri is going to be an interesting challenge this week and maybe some people will start paying attention to the Tigers if they play the Bulldogs well.
- Interesting game between Florida and LSU this week. The Tigers can not afford another loss if they are going to play in the SEC Title Game. Florida can vault themselves into Championship discussion with a win. If Florida can get the game at its pace and limit the big-play WR's, it should be a close one.
- Wake Alabama up when October is over.
- I thought Ole Miss would be better, but freshman need time to excel and this team is still young where the talent lies. Better times are ahead for the Rebels.
- Missouri, Alabama and LSU can get bowl-eligible this week.

- Apparently it wasn't just the competition?? The test for Baylor now is how to sustain the record-setting offensive efficiency for two more months. Nobody has had an answer to date, but there will come a point when it is not this easy. Until then, I am going to sit back and enjoy the fireworks. Next victim = Kansas State.
- Texas escaped last week in controversial fashion and now has Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. There are no signs that the Sooners aren't going to roll them for a 2nd straight season.
- The combined 0-4 records of TCU and Kansas State in the Big 12 might lead to some dicey bowl-eligibility soon. TCU has to beat Kansas, but the Wildcats are staring at an 0-3 start against Baylor.
- Oklahoma and Texas Tech can get bowl-eligible this week.

- Maryland, we are glad you attended the Florida State game last weekend. How about that for some separation between the ACC elite and the next group? There were some injury issues that contributed to the massacre, so I am not dropping the Terps until I see the residual effects.
- Kudos to Wake Forest for getting the ACC win I was starting to wonder if they had in them. Momentum can be a crazy thing, so maybe the Demon Deacons can steal a few more.
- Miami and Virginia Tech have now created apparent separation, although Pitt could come in to Blacksburg and change that perception this weekend. Don't forget Paul Chryst got the Hokies 35-17 a year ago.
- Clemson and Virginia Tech can get bowl-eligible this week.

- Nothing much new in the AAC. Cincinnati gift-wrapped a win to South Florida and might be just the 5th best team in the conference when all is said and done. If Houston rolls a competitive Memphis team this week, they might garner a bump up.
- The big game this week is the Thursday Night tilt between Rutgers and Louisville. It will be the biggest test for the Cardinals and it comes in that oh-so-tricky ESPN Thursday slot. Teddy Bridgewater gets a chance to shine nationally, but the Scarlett Knights are proving very gritty and will not lay down easily.
- Louisville can get bowl-eligible this week.

- Devastating injury to Chuckie Keaton of Utah State, ending his season and possibly the Aggies Mountain West title hopes. I took them down two wins, but the great unknown could result in a more drastic projection change after we see how they respond. Unfortunately for Utah State, Boise State is the first team to come calling this week.
- I bumped Fresno State to the undefeated category, as the more I look at the remaining schedule, the less I can figure out who is going to beat them. They are not invincible, but they have found a way thus far and might just be finding their stride.
- San Diego State looks like a bounce-back team after a rough start. They have the talent to churn out four more wins and get to another bowl.

- Is it strange for Rice and Tulane to be the elite teams in a Division? Strange or not, that is what seems to be taking place in the C-USA West. Maybe Tulsa can get it rolling and still be a factor, but right now it looks like the Owls and the Green Wave.
- East Carolina and Marshall continue to pace the C-USA East and there is no reason to think that will change throughout the season. Florida Atlantic is greatly improved in the East, but not championship caliber improved.

- The separation continues in the MAC, with Ohio, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Ball State clearly at the top, Toledo is right there and Buffalo might be closer to this group than the group below it.
- Please contact me if you watch any of the Massachusetts vs Miami OH game this coming weekend. I will refer you to some professional help. I might even skip picking the game this week based on principal.
- The best game of this week is a non-conference game with Bowling Green traveling to SEC country and taking on Mississippi State. With victories over two Big Ten teams and an ACC team, this would be a real notch in the belt of the MAC upper echelon to take down one from the mighty SEC.
- Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Ball State can get bowl-eligible this week.

- A little more clarity this week, as Texas State and South Alabama showed they are not quite ready for primetime, although South Alabama took Troy to the wire.
- ULM is a complete mess and needs someone to step-up with Kolton Browning lost for the season.
- Antonio Andrews is the man and Bobby Petrino has finally figured out if you just feed the horse, good things will happen.
