2013 NFL Mock Draft - Full 7 Rounds V2

I started my first mock a week ago and a lot happens in a week.  The task now is to incorporate the changes and updates without throwing the whole 7 rounds into complete disarray.  I will do my best!!  And if you don't like trades, you won't like my mock.

Looks like Fisher at #1 as the Chiefs coaching staff wins out.

No time for 2nd-7th round corrections, but one last shot at absorbing the latest for the first.

ROUND 1

Pick Overall pick Team

1 1 Kansas City - Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan- seems like the consensus pick to land here at the moment and fills a need for the Chiefs.

2 2 Jacksonville - Dion Jordan, DE/LB, Oregon - while this is a potential landing spot for Geno Smith, I think the Jaguars like some of the second round prospects enough to go pass rusher with #2.  And that does not take them out of the Geno Smith hunt just yet.

3 3 Detroit from Oakland - Shariff Floyd, DT, Florida Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M- an interesting scenario would have Arizona trading up to this spot, as Floyd would likely still be available at 7.  The Cardinals would be targeting Eric Fisher here, but are they willing to part with their second round pick and potentially a little more.  For now, I will have the Raiders picking in this spot.

4 4 Philadelphia - Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah - Chip Kelly wants athletic, versatile offensive lineman and Fisher and Lane Johnson both fit that mold.  The MAC product is the higher rated guy and gives the Eagles a pillar to build around.  This may well still end up being Star Lotulelei or Geno Smith, but I am leaning toward OT for the Eagles as we get closer to Thursday.

5 5 Oakland from Detroit- Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU  Shariff Floyd, DT, Florida - If Eric Fisher falls to this spot, he would be the pick, but I believe the Lions will opt for Ansah over the likes of Lane Johnson.

6 6 San Diego from Cleveland - Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma- Either the Dolphins or Chargers will be in the market for the last tackle and it appears a Brandon Albert to Miami deal is imminent, so its the Chargers that move-up to grab Lane Johnson.

7 7 Arizona - Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU - With the top 3 tackles gone, Lotulelei is the top player on the board and the Cardinals have taken a long look at him.

8 8 Buffalo - Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse - The Bills will look to trade out of this spot, but will they find a taker?  Atlanta and San Francisco both want to move-up, but this would seem to steep a move for them.  Maybe the Bills will find another taker, say Jerry Jones?  Otherwise, if Nassib is their guy, they take him here.

9 9 New York Jets - Barkevious Mingo, LB, LSU - there was a small window where it appeared the Jets would do something crazy, but all reports are that they love Mingo and he will be the pick here

10 10 Tennessee - Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama Johnathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina - Milliner is slipping a little and may well get passed the Titans as well if they opt for one of the big time guards in this draft.

11 11 Cleveland from San Diego Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia - All the smoke is in the air that the quarterbacks are falling down the draft boards.  I believe some of it, but I the position still remains the most coveted of all.  By re-acquiring a 2nd round pick, it affords the Browns the option of grabbing Smith.  They seem to be the team most interested in his services.

12 12 Miami - Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame - With Brandon Albert aboard, the Dolphins can turn their attention to cornerback and the highly-regarded Seminole in Rhodes.  This could be a landing spot for TE Tyler Eifert as well.

13 13 San Francisco from (New York Jets from Tampa Bay)Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri - The 49ers have the ammunition to pick the spot to grab a player they covet such as Richardson.  The Jets are also interested in moving back.

14 14 Carolina - Kenny Vacarro, S, Texas - With Richardson gone, the Panthers turn to the top-rated safety to help out their defense.

15 15 New Orleans - Jarvis Jones, DE/LB, Georgia - the Saints also need an injection of pass rush, and while Jones is a gamble, he was once thought of as a top-5 pick.

16 16 St. Louis - Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia - the Rams will be flying high if Austin slips to them at 16, but it looks like this might be a realistic scenario unless a team trades up for his services.

17 17 Pittsburgh - Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee - The Steelers seem to be in a position to let the board come to them and Eifert can help offset the loss of Mike Wallace by giving the Steelers another playmaker.

18 18 Dallas - Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama Johnathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina - This is a dream scenario for the Cowboys with both Cooper and Warmack available.  They are reported to love Cooper, but they might not think Warmack had a chance to be available.  I will go Cooper based on the love.

19 19 New York Giants - Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama - The Giants don't like taking OL in the first round, but when a future all-pro guard slips to you, you pick him.  I have a hard time believing both guards will get to this point on the board, but it fell this way pretty easily.  Last year, David DeCastro was supposed to go 10-12 and went in the mid-20's.  If not Warmack, look for Tank Carradine here.

20 20 Chicago - Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia - Amending my pick of Manti Te'o here, and going with Ogletree, who the Bears really like and just has different off-field issues than Te'o.

21 21 Cincinnati - D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama - the Bengals need a safety and a tackle and the big man from Alabama is too hard to pass up here.  Safety can be addressed by getting back into this first round...

22 22 Atlanta from St. Louis (from Washington) - Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State - The Falcons can't grab Trufant before he goes any further (Colts would be heavily interested), so they deal picks 30, 92 and 163 to the Rams, who have shown they don't mind trading and trading down.

23 23 Minnesota - Tank Carradine, DE, Florida State Sylvester Williams, DT, North Carolina - In a late rumor, the Vikings apparently are very interested in Carradine.  If he gets past the Giants, the Vikings could be his final destination.

24 24 Philadelphia from Indianapolis - E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida State - The Colts pick up selections 35, 67 and 101 in exchange for 24 and 86.  The Eagles will not need to do this trade if Smith is still available, but with the Jets and Jaguars representing potential suitors for Manuel, Chip Kelly pulls the first big trigger in his tenure.

25 25 Minnesota (from Seattle) - Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee Manti Te'o, LB, Notre Dame - I think there is a chance Patterson falls out of the first round, but why not replace a versatile playmaker in Percy Harvin with a potential versatile playmaker in Patterson.

26 26 Cincinnati from Green Bay - Johnathan Cyprien, S, Florida International Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama

- The Bengals send selections 37 and 84 to Ted Thompson and the Packers to get back in the first round and grab their safety.

27 27 New York Jets from Houston - Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington - The Jets give up a 4th rounder to move-up and get Taylor, who could also be on the radar of the rival Patriots.  With 5 picks in the top 82, the Jets can part with a 4th rounder, while the Texans still have a myriad of options still available.

28 28 Denver - Sylvester Williams, DT, North Carolina Tank Carradine, DE, Florida State - The Broncos will have a choice of defensive lineman that are falling in the draft, taking Williams over Bjoern Werner of Florida State.

29 29 New England - Robert Woods, WR, USC Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State - CB or DE is also an option here, but losing Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd, along with health issues at TE make finding Brady another weapon all the more paramount.

30 30 St. Louis from Atlanta - Eric Reid, FS, LSU - Reid has been linked to the Rams in several spots and this represents fair value for him.

31 31 Houston from New York Jets from San Francisco - DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson - I can't pull the trigger on anything but WR here, but keep an eye out for Kyle Long in the 1st round and WR in the 2nd for the Texans.

32 32 Baltimore - Keith Minter, LB, LSU - The Ravens need inside linebacker help and Minter is a name currently moving into the 1st round.  Could also be the Manti Te'o landing spot.

2013 NFL Mock Draft - Full 7 Rounds V1

With less than two weeks until the 2013 version of the NFL Draft, I thought I would start building up the 2013 Jabesblog version of the draft.  Check back as I will update selections periodically over the next 13 days leading up to the real thing.

ROUND 1

Pick Overall pick Team

1 1 Kansas City - Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M - seems like the consensus pick to land here at the moment and fills a need for the Chiefs.

2 2 Jacksonville - Dion Jordan, DE/LB, Oregon - while this is a potential landing spot for Geno Smith, I think the Jaguars like some of the second round prospects enough to go pass rusher with #2.

3 3 Oakland - Shariff Floyd, DT, Florida - an interesting scenario would have Arizona trading up to this spot, as Floyd would likely still be available at 7.  The Cardinals would be targeting Eric Fisher here, but are they willing to part with their second round pick and potentially a little more.  For now, I will have the Raiders picking in this spot.

4 4 Philadelphia - Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah - there is a lot of buzz surrounding Geno Smith here, but I believe Philadelphia will pass on Smith and take the now-medically-cleared Lotulelei and address a need in the trenches.

5 5 New York Jets from Detroit (T1) - Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama - the Revis circus will have implications into draft day, including the Jets trading up to get the consensus #1 DB in the draft (its my mock, so why not have some fun with it, nobody gets these right anyway).  Detroit gets the Jets 1st, 3rd and 4th round picks.

6 6 Cleveland - Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia - after the Jets steal Milliner from them, the Browns, feeling they have addressed their pass rush in free agency, opt for Smith to lead the new regime.  Going with a new quarterback all the time is just what the Browns do.

7 7 Arizona - Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan - Christmas comes in April for the Cardinals, as the slight draft shake-up lands them their man without needing to move.

8 8 Miami from Buffalo (T2) - Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma - Strong rumor that Miami covets Johnson and has two third round picks to go up and get him.  I am taking a do-over as Buffalo can stockpile an extra pick in their quest to move back into the first round for Ryan Nassib.

9 9 Detroit from New York Jets (T1) - Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU - the trade with the Jets works out, as I think Ansah is who the Lions take at #5 anyway.

10 10 Tennessee - Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama - the Titans could go pass-rusher, but everyone thinks Warmack is the most NFL ready player in this draft.  Huge upgrades to the O-Line could improve a pedestrian Titan offense.

11 11 San Diego - Johnathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina - I am a bit skeptical that two guards will be picked this high, especially after David DeCastro did not meet his high projection a year ago.  That said, the Chargers have a leaky O-line that needs help any way they can get it.  If the Chargers want one of the 3 OT's, they are going to have to move into the Top 10.

12 12 Buffalo from Miami (T2) - Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia - the Bills still get a major playmaker in Austin and get a 3rd round pick to boot.

13 13 Tampa Bay - Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State - even if Revis is still in play, the Bucs were bad enough against the pass to make Rhodes the pick here.  Tampa also needs a TE, but I think they can wait until Round 2 to address it.

14 14 Carolina - Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri - the Panthers are going to stay put and get they guy they want in Richardson, who fills a need after recent failures trying to address the interior of their D-Line.

15 15 Dallas from New Orleans (T3) - Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas - the Cowboys are rumored to love Vaccaro and Johnathan Cooper.  With Cooper off the board, Dallas moves ahead of the safety-seeking Rams.

16 16 St. Louis - Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee - the Rams miss out on Tavon Austin, so they go with the 2nd WR on the boards with Patterson.

17 17 Pittsburgh - Barkevious Mingo, DE/LB, LSU - as usual, the Steelers get a player who could go much earlier but for some reason slips to them.  Mingo will help replace James Harrison and attempt to re-invigorate the pass rush.

18 18 New Orleans from Dallas (T3) - Jarvis Jones, DE/LB, Georgia - the Saints also need an injection of pass rush, and while Jones is a gamble, he was once thought of as a top-5 pick.  If this comes to play-out, it will be an interesting career comparison between fellow SEC players Mingo and Jones.

19 19 New York Giants - Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State - the G-men get the best player available and he adds to the defensive line rotation that fuels the teams recent success.

20 20 Chicago - Manti Te'o, LB, Notre Dame - the carnival comes to the midway, as the Bears tab the most controversial player in this years draft.  Despite the poor combine, the production of Te'o is exactly what Chicago needs to replace Brian Urlacher.

21 21 Cincinnati - D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama - with a current opening at tackle, the Bengals take the best one remaining on the board.

22 22 St. Louis (from Washington) - John Cyprien, S, Florida International - the Rams need safety help and the 49ers are rumored to covet Cyprien, who is shooting up the draft boards.  Why not stick it to your rival and fill a need.  Think Shea McClellin of 2012.

23 23 Minnesota - Sylvester Williams, DT, North Carolina - Williams appears linked to the Vikings all over the place.  They love their DT to have the name Williams.  Or Randle, but none of them are available.

24 24 Indianapolis - Datone Jones, DE, UCLA - he makes sense for the Colts and this is about where Jones would go.

25 25 Minnesota (from Seattle) - Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia - Ogletree has seen his stock fall, but the Vikings are one team that has had success with these stories in the past.  This could be a pick of great value for the Purple and Gold.

26 26 Buffalo from Green Bay (T4) - Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse - the Packers are notorious for trading back, and without a surefire need, Ted Thompson finds a trading partner and acquires the Bills 2nd round pick and the 3rd round pick they got from Miami.  Buffalo gets their quarterback in Nassib to compete with Kevin Kolb.

27 27 Houston - Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee - The Texans need a wideout opposite the aging Andre Johnson and Hunter is rising up the charts right now.  Before a knee injury in 2011, Hunter was poised to be a top 15 pick.  His physical tools make him the man for the Texans at this spot.

28 28 Denver - D.J. Hayden, CB, Houston - Champ Bailey was a bit exposed against Baltimore and Hayden would give Denver a younger option who could learn some tricks from the old man.

29 29 New England - Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington - The Patriots pass defense still needs help and Trufant is a cover guy to help their cause.

30 30 Atlanta - Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame - Tony Gonzalez's heir apparent falls into the Falcons lap at #30.  Eifert could go as early as #13 to Tampa, so this could be a steal for Atlanta.

31 31 San Francisco - John Jenkins, DT, Georgia - The 49ers seem to be linked to Cyprien, but his rising stock might make Jenkins the more realistic pick here.

32 32 Baltimore - Keith Minter, LB, LSU - The Ravens need inside linebacker help and Minter is a name currently moving into the 1st round.
