College Football Week 6 - Jabesblog Picks

Season Record:  74-59-2 (ATS)  106-30 (Straight-Up)
Last Week: 23-23-1 (ATS)  33-14 (Straight-Up)

Two .500 weeks in a row have me searching for answers.  Let's try the answers below for week 6.

WEEK 6 Picks

Texas 31, Iowa State (+7) 27 (W)
Road teams in these ESPN Thursday games always struggle
Western Kentucky (-7) 34, ULM 21 (W)
UCLA 31, Utah (+6) 30 (L)
Thursday Night, Spread Range favors Utah, but I think UCLA is definitely the better team
Utah State 34, BYU (+6) 31 (W)
BYU is 8-0 ATS as an underdog the past 3 years, but only 4-4 in those games
Nevada (+5.5) 28, San Diego State 27 (L)
Navy 28, Air Force (+11.5) 21 (L)
Navy is only 2-8 the past 3 years when playing a team with a losing record
Florida State (-15.5) 41, Maryland 20 (W)
Michigan State (pick 'em) 19, Iowa 16 (W)
My gut says Iowa, but all the trends lean Sparty.  My gut has been mediocre the past few weeks
Louisville (-32) 56, Temple 10 (L)
Louisville doesn't seem to be letting up on anyone as they try to bolster their eye test
Toledo (-21) 42, Western Michigan 17 (W)
Buffalo 27, Eastern Michigan (+13.5) 17 (L)
Alabama 48, Georgia State (+55) 7 (W)
'Bama is just 2-7 in the past 3 years when favored by over 31, let alone 55
Boston College (-14) 35, Army 14 (W)
Army is just 1-10 ATS on the road the past 3 seasons
Miami, OH (+3) 20, Central Michigan 17 (L)
I can't pick the Chippewas again
Ball State (+5.5) 27, Virginia 17 (W)
The Cardinals have too much firepower against a Cavalier team struggling on offense
Miami, FL (-5.5) 30, Georgia Tech 20 (W)
The Hurricanes have covered 8 of their last 9 and catch a deflated Yellow Jackets team
Clemson (-13.5) 44, Syracuse 24 (W)
First visits to the Carrier Dome are never fun, but the Orange may have talked too much this week
NC State (-7.5) 31, Wake Forest 17 (L)
Illinois (+10) 35, Nebraska 30 (L)
With Taylor Martinez likely out and a shaky defense, this one could easily go the Illini way
Marshall (-14) 48, UTSA 28 (W)
In games against really good offenses, UTSA has been unable to keep up
North Texas (-2.5) 26, Tulane 20 (L)
Each team is alternating wins and losses
Oregon (-38.5) 63, Colorado 14 (W)
Georgia (-10) 45, Tennessee 20 (L)
This is not a trap game for Georgia, they  are just better
Florida 24, Arkansas (+11.5) 14 (L)
LSU 33, Mississippi State (+9.5) 27 (L)
Rice (+3) 27, Tulsa 20 (W)
I am starting to think Tulsa is not very good this year and Charles Ross makes the difference for Rice in this one
Virginia Tech 20, North Carolina (+7.5) 17  (L)
Oklahoma (-10.5) 33, TCU 17  (L)
Cincinnati (-11.5) 34, South Florida 10 (L)
Oklahoma State (-14) 37, Kansas State 17 (L)
Missouri (+1.5) 38, Vanderbilt 31 (W)
A lot of trends say Vandy, but I think Missouri has underrated mojo going
Michigan 31, Minnesota (+19) 21 (L)
UCF 24, Memphis (+9.5) 20 (W)
A trap game sandwiched between South Carolina and Louisville for UCF
Rutgers (-4.5) 38, SMU 21 (L)
Lock of the week
Fresno State (-27) 52, Idaho 14 (W)
I think Fresno State got a wake-up call about playing 4 quarters last week
Texas State (+10.5) 31, Louisiana-Lafayette 27 (L)
South Alabama (+3.5) 31, Troy 27 (W)
Give me two upsets in the topsy-turvy Sun Belt
New Mexico (-9.5) 42, New Mexico State 21 (W)
Washington State (-1.5) 34, California 29 (W)
It looks like Connor Holliday is a go, which tilts this one to the Cougars
Stanford (-7) 30, Washington 20 (L)
This line is about right, but Stanford seems to be regaining a full head of steam
Northern Illinois (-9) 45, Kent State 28 (W)
The strengths seem to align for Northern Illinois, although Kent State finally got a running game going last week
Ole Miss (-3) 26, Auburn 20 (L)
This probably is a field goal game, but Ole Miss is just a little more talented at this point
South Carolina (-21) 41, Kentucky 10 (L)
I think the Gamecocks finally found their identity in the 2nd Half last week...it's Mike Davis time
Southern Miss 20, FIU (+17) 13 (W)
No way I am taking a team favored by 17 that has lost 16 straight games
Bowling Green (-26.5) 38, Massachusetts 3 (L)
UAB (-4.5) 31, Florida Atlantic 22 (L)
Texas Tech (-16.5) 31, Kansas 10 (W)
East Carolina (-7.5) 44, Middle Tennessee 17 (L)
The Pirates run defense negates Middle Tennessee's biggest weapon
Ohio (-4.5) 34, Akron 17 (W)
Is the Michigan game the cause for this line?  Ohio has beaten very solid Marshall and North Texas.  Akron has beaten James Madison by 2.
Arizona State (-6) 38, Notre Dame 24 (L)
The Sun Devils offense is firing away and the Irish don't have the weaponry to keep up
Baylor (-28.5) 62, West Virginia 21 (W)
All the confidence built-up in the win vs Oklahoma State gets thrown out when you are down 21-0 in the blink of an eye
Louisiana Tech (-2) 31, UTEP 24 (W)
If Lousiana Tech commits to the run, they should beat a bad UTEP team
Ohio State (-6.5) 52, Northwestern 35 (W)
Sometimes the hype is much bigger than reality
Penn State (-3) 34, Indiana 24 (L)
Will Indiana ever play a road game?
San Jose State (-5) 33, Hawaii 20 (W)

Record This Week - 28-27
Record This Year - 102-86-2
